35MW Solar Farm proposal in Uffington, Shrewsbury
A proposal is in place to install a 35MW solar farm located approximately 0.2km northeast of Uffington, and 1.5km east of Shrewsbury. This site is within Shropshire Council administrative area and shows a real push by the local authority to prodive renewable technology on a large scale in the area.
The Solar Farm would have a capacity of approximately 35 megawatts and would offer enough energy to power over 10,000 homes. It is also estimated that around 210,000 tonnes of CO2 savings can be made over 30 year period.
The hope is that this will aid in the government’s target to be net zero carbon by 2050.
Uffington Solar Farm has been chosen because it has a near point of connection to the grid, it’s out of sight, the land is used for wheat and corn crops, and the landowners are willing to lease the land. It is also outside of the following list of sensitivities: flood risk, SSSI, national parks, AONB, heritage-sensitive buildings, footpaths, other archaeological sites, and away from residential areas.
Construction is anticipated to take a maximum of 39 weeks
